To commemorate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, Vissanji Academy in association with Nehru Science Centre and TIFR had first held an Inter-school Science Exhibition cum Competition- ‘ EXPISCOR’ in the year 2012. It was a unique venture, the first of its kind where a school had managed to associate itself with the two giants of science. Budding scientists from 25 ICSE schools from across Mumbai had participated and presented creative working models and science exhibits which garnered a lot of praise from teachers, parents and schools.

In our endeavour to encourage Scientific thinking, Vissanji Academy has been hosting the Annual Science Festival ‘Expiscor’ ever since 2012.

This year Expiscor 2024 will focus on how to transform a traditional STEM class into something more fun and engaging for the students! A One-day Teacher Workshop on Playful Pedagogy: Exploring Educational Games will be conducted by the Design and Technology Education Group of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai. It will be followed by an inter-school design competition which is scheduled to take place in the month of December, 2024

This event goes beyond conventional boundaries and seeks to create a platform where students from various backgrounds can come together to share their talents, ideas, and experiences. In conclusion to the event, each child is gifted a small token of love contributed by the management, teachers and students.

AWARE INDIA has been be implemented at Vissanji Academy in the regular school curriculum for Grades 1 to 10 to address the students weighed down by negative animal-related experience and the plight of pets that get abandoned in shelters or face poor welfare conditions in their homes due to impulsive decisions to bring home pets coupled with a lack of awareness regarding the responsibility to care for them.

AWARE INDIA is an innovative educational program that is built on children’s affinity for animals. The program focuses on deepening their understanding of human-animal coexistence and enables them to grow up to be empowered, empathetic and aware citizens of the future. The curriculum is based on 6 core modules to be conducted during the academic year.

In addition to imparting key knowledge about companion animals, wildlife and the environment, the program is unique in its approach to bridging the naturalistic and emotional intelligence of children. When children are given an opportunity to develop their emotional intelligence, they are more likely to rationally approach situations to overcome challenges posed by their immediate environment and make balanced lifestyle decisions guided by compassion.

The AWARE INDIA program has been developed by RESQ Charitable Trust. RESQ Charitable Trust is a recognized associate and is affiliated to the Maharashtra Forest Department, Pune District SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) chaired by the District Collector and governed by Maharashtra Animal Welfare Board.

it’s never too early for children to start playing an active role in our democracy. With the objective of inculcating democratic values, Active Citizenship and Life skills in students Vissanji Academy has implemented the CMCA programme for the Grade 7 students and Spark Wokshops for Grade 5 to 9.

CMCA has designed different citizenship programmes, targeted at different age groups and to meet different objectives:

  • Learn democratic values like justice, liberty, equality, inclusivity, sustainability, and social responsibility through experiential learning techniques
  • Understand what their rights are as citizens, and gain the confidence to act in pursuit of these rights, whether by organising peaceful campaigns or contacting government authorities to fix civic amenities – thus learning important life skills.
  • Gain a sense of duty and responsibility as citizens to work for the betterment of their communities, the environment, and society as a whole

In commemoration of our Trustee Late Shri Hemant Pratapsinh Vissanji, students of Class 10 securing 90% and above in the ICSE Board Examination are felicitated on the 15th of August each year with certificates and cash prizes to recognizing their hard work and dedication. Global Scholars is a digital exchange program that connects students ages 10 to 13 in cities around the world. Guided by the teachers, students of Vissanji Academy participate in a project-based curriculum and engage with international peers in e-classroom discussion boards to learn how to solve a global problem.

The curriculum advances nine student learning outcomes developed by Global Cities, Inc., which are designed to prepare students to be globally competent adults. There are four global learning outcomes (appreciation for diversity, cultural understanding, global knowledge, global engagement), and five general learning outcomes that support growth in all academic subjects (digital literacy, language communication, self-efficacy, academic engagement, critical thinking). Each unit emphasizes a thematic group of indicators across these outcomes, supporting students’ ongoing development of global competency. Global Scholars, which is conducted in English, is operated by Global Cities, Inc., a program of Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Vissanji Academy students’ project was identified as exemplary work as this project picked up on the school and redesigned different aspects of the school reflected understanding that problems may be solved differently depending on cultural factors. It was shared with a larger audience outside the secure e-classroom, such as on social media, in presentations, and on the Global Cities, Inc. website as a strong example of student work.

To enhance students’ understanding of weather, a weather station has been installed at Vissanji Academy. This weather station provides customised weather readings accessible from anywhere with an internet connection. Students can monitor real-time data as well as historical records from the last week, month, or year. This hands-on experience encourages them to analyze trends and understand climate patterns in a practical way. Engaging with this data will empower students to conduct experiments, create projects, and deepen their appreciation for the environment around them.
